Moving People, Not Metal

On one side you have a bus with 40 people on it, all going to work or school together in the same vehicle.
On the other side, you have four private cars—and there are only 4 people in all of them. Those four cars are taking up a lot of space on the road.
They are taking up as much space as the bus, but they are only moving a few people. To move four people, we are using four separate cars, and each car has an engine that is putting out bad air into the air we breathe in Kathmandu.
This is a part of the reason we have so many problems with the air we breathe. The city bus is not just a way to get around; the bus is also helping to keep the air clean for everyone in Kathmandu. We have plants and trees along the road.
They do help, but they cannot keep up with all the bad air if we keep using so many cars. We need to think about this in a new way.
We should design our city so it is easy for people to get around, not just easy for cars to get around.
