“SafaHawa campaign: An experience”
An experience
Two months ago I joined the Clean Air Campaign.
Before that I knew that pollution was harmful but I never truly realized how much pollution was being created around me by my own family my community my neighborhood and the people of my district.
Even though the evidence was right in front of my eyes I had failed to notice it.
The day I joined the campaign my perspective changed completely.
Since then every day and every hour I have become more aware of the pollution around me.
It is painful and sometimes traumatic to see environmental problems everywhere while realizing that many people do not seem concerned about them.
From my experiences and observations I have learned that vehicle emissions are not the only major source of air pollution in Rupandehi.
The burning of agricultural waste is also a significant contributor.
The scale of this problem is alarming and it has convinced me that stronger laws and stricter enforcement are needed to control it.
Every hour agricultural waste is being burned somewhere in the district.
When people are asked about the impacts of agricultural waste burning many remain completely unaware.
Most do not know what PM2.5 is or understand the difference between smoke and clean air in terms of their effects on human health.
Overall the need for air pollution awareness is enormous.
In many cases people pollute not because they intend to harm the environment but because they simply do not know the consequences of their actions.
